An Ohio native, Tia Stewart has had a lifetime of musical influence. Raised in Los Angeles, Ca. Tia would be exposed to music greatness through her father; Mel Stewart, and legendary producer Norman Whitfield whose works include Motown, The Temptations, and Rolls Royce. Tia’s father a singer himself was pursuing his career with Whitfield Records recording artist “Undisputed Truth” at the time when she got bit by the bug. After hanging out at rehearsals and recording studios, it was then she knew she wanted to sing.
At age 14, Tia would record her first album “Games” as a member of Warner Brother/Malaco recording group “Teen Dream” and her first single titled, a remake of “Ring my bell”.
Tia would go on to open for such acts such as Roger Troutman, Morris Day, Cameo, and New Birth. If that wasn’t enough in 1998, Tia would get that big break and sing background for Atlantic Records recording artist “Gerald Levert” and have to opportunity to tour the world and share the stage with such great artist as: Stevie wonder, Patti Labelle, Charlie Wilson, The Whispers, Keith Sweat, Frankie Beverly & Maze, and Babyface to mention a few. Tia’s backup singing credentials don’t stop here ~she has also sung for greats Miki Howard, The O’Jays, Johnny Gill, LSG, and has performed on the Tom Joyner Cruise not once, but 4 times.
Tia is humble when speaking of her career and touched by the many performers she has been blessed to perform with and the many places it has taken her like Japan, Hawaii, London, and Bermuda. However, she does have two highlights in her career –performing at the Essence Awards and accompanying Gerald & Eddie Levert on their “Father and Son Tour” to South Africa in 2006 where Tia would meet the honorable Nelson and Winnie Mandela.
She is currently working on new material and group named “The Tia Stewart Project” in hopes to release a new solo album in the near future. Check out "Play my song", on her page.
